Something I thoroughly enjoy and can see myself doing for the rest of my life is serving my wonderful fraternity, Nu Alpha Kappa.
I currently serve as the National Alumni Association Director of Planning & Marketing. This is after a year of serving as the National Director of Programs, over 24 nationwide chapters. Although the work for the fraternity is taxing and sometimes thankless, it never becomes mundane – because every so often, you get moments like these where you see efforts you’ve worked on directly impact someone’s life.
I helped get local scholarship that is awarded at my home chapter in Reno off the ground and it is now in its second year. We recently awarded it to a pre-med major at UNR, and it felt fantastic. Check out a brief description below.
“The gentlemen of the Omicron Chapter of Nu Alpha Kappa Fraternity, Inc. at the University of Nevada, Reno would like to once again congratulate Jessica Stevens for becoming the 3rd winner of our RISE Above Scholarship! The mission of the RISE (Remember, Inspire, Soar, Educate) Above Scholarship is to aid incoming & well-deserving UNR students, and is based on the student’s community/leadership involvement, personal background & need.
Applicants must exemplify the ability to have risen above life’s challenges and the desire to ascend further in their future. This scholarship is available for those who do not qualify for financial aid as well.
Jessica is our third winner of this scholarship, joining Perla Garcia and Robert Lopez (both of whom became members of MGC Greek organizations in their freshman years). She is a pre-medical major, and we wish her nothing but the best in her collegiate career, and hope that she continues to rise above challenges she encounters in life and flourish over them!
We held a scholarship banquet for Jessica last week on campus and were ecstatic to see many of our brothers come out to celebrate her accomplishments and raise funds for future scholarships.
We pay it forward because we’ve been given so much, and we are excited to see this scholarship to continue to grow and touch the lives of many more people.
