About 3 weeks ago, I started doing something that a lot of people probably find weird & crazy: Talking to my muscles.
Every night and before my workouts, I look at my entire body, analyze it, and tell it it’s going to get bigger, leaner, stronger & more vascular. I tell it that it’s going to be the best body I’ve ever laid eyes on. I tell it that it’s going to win every physique competition it enters.
OK, let’s address the weirdness first: I know it’s odd to speak to ones muscles and body parts as if they were apart from the rest of his/her body. I get that.
But for those who know the power of vision, belief, faith & willpower, this isn’t odd at all.
For example: Have you ever believed something so strongly in your mind that it became true? A good example I can give is with supplements. For many exercisers, we take them so much that they become an integral part of our fitness regimen. If we go a day without protein powder or a preworkout mix, our muscles are going to eat themselves & our world is over.
But when you get off of them (hopefully), you realize that this was just a facade you created in your mind. When you get off of them, you realize your body is totally capable of keeping the same levels of fitness (and still progressing) without the supplements.
But we BELIEVED these supplements were key to our success because our mind told us so.
The same concept goes for talking to your muscles. If you believe that your muscles are going to get leaner and stronger, they will. If you have faith and see yourself with lean abs and vascular arms, you will have them if you put in the work.
If you have a mindset of “I was born lean, so I can’t put on muscle no matter what I do,” then you’re right. You won’t put on muscle. You’ll be lean & skinny your whole life. Have fun ;]
But if you believe, have faith and see that you can put on muscle, and you reinforce these thoughts with positive verbal messages to yourself, you can make them happen.
Personally, I’ve seen my waist shrink, arms get more vascular, legs become more defined and wings expand since I started talking to my muscles. Of course, this is coupled with a rigorous exercise and nutrition regimen, but if I didn’t believe that my body was going to be one of the best anyone has ever seen, I wouldn’t be where I’m at now.
So for the moment being, I’ll keep talking to my muscles & weirding people out at the gym…& keep dropping body fat & increasing muscle mass :]
Because at the end of the day, they’re just positive thoughts. And it’s just like the old saying goes: Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t, you’re right. The power of the mind is second to none..
