I recently opened up about my not-so-good-time in job seeking after graduating from college. I finally realized that I needed help so I reached out to those around me.
One of those people was Terry Rasner-Yacenda: One of the most amazing people in my life.
I first met Terry on Thursday, May 24, when she was interviewing me for a position as a social media director at her real estate agency (Dreams Realty). After the question & answer session, I got the job on the spot and my amazing relationship with her started.
Within my first week of meeting her, I was offered a job as a coach-counselor at a local high school for delinquent boys. I was unbelievably excited. My first full-time job out of college, the chance to work with children, a shot at changing lives — this was perfect.
But I told Terry about this job and she talked me out of it. Her husband was familiar with the place and told me it likely wouldn’t be a good fit for me and I should hold out for something else.
So I followed her advice.
So I carried on with my job at Dreams Realty. Training agents on using social media and other online forums to build their brand, and just being an all-around IT guy.
When I was reaching the end of my contracted position with her agency, Terry asked me what my plans were for the near future.
My responses were uncertain, shaky and vague.
She looked me in my eyes and told me, “We’re lucky the mirror doesn’t talk. Because we’re so much more in peoples’ eyes than we are in our own eyes.”
She told me to think outside of myself and reach higher. Don’t think of a job I want to do. Think of a job I want to create, institute a plan, a go for it.
So I followed her advice.
So I followed her advice.
Remember, it is the Lord’s timing, not ours.
