Society has successfully taught us to play it safe and shoot for average.
We’re taught that being obsessed with something is bad, we’re taught that overcommitting to something is not a good idea, we’re taught to be reasonable in our goal setting so as to not set ourselves up for failure..
But the reason a lot of us never fulfill our full potential is because we follow this advice. We underestimate our own abilities and potential. We limit ourselves before we even start.
You should be unrealistic.
When you set realistic goals, you underestimate how much work it will take to get there. Wouldn’t it be better to set goals far out of your reach, so that your work ethic and commitment will match it? Even if you come up short, you will far exceed the ‘realistic’ goals you had in mind earlier.
You SHOULD be obsessed with something.
You should be obsessed with making it to the NFL, or becoming a lawyer, or being the best digital marketer in the world, or being the first ____ to ____, or being the first woman to play in the MLB, or adding your name to Encyclopedias everywhere, or becoming the next great artist of our generation, or ‘putting a ding in the universe.‘
You MUST take your dedication and commitment to obsessive & completely fixated levels if you ever hope of achieving something not just great, but legendary and world changing.
Become obsessed with whatever your dreams are. Go after them with your complete heart. Wake up thinking about your dreams…work on them all day…and then go to sleep and dream about them some more.
I’m a huge believer in that the only thing standing between our greatest dreams and desires is obsession.
Nothing great will ever happen without an unwavering, sick obsession toward what you’re doing.
Your goals, dreams, passions, commitments and obsessions should direct your actions every day.
Go ALL IN and OVERCOMMIT.
