Close your eyes.
Envision yourself going to Facebook.
You sign in and see 10 notifications on your top right corner, shining in bright red – 3 friend requests, two messages from women who are “new to Facebook and looking to make friends!” and 5 invites to play Candy Crush.
Then you go back onto your timeline.
You scroll.
What do you see?
Post from a distant friend.
Picture from a college roommate.
Ad.
Post from your brother.
Funny video your friend shared.
Dumb meme your friend shared.
Emotional post from some 14-year-old who shouldn’t be on Facebook anyway.
Ad.
Etc, etc. etc.
You go to Twitter, LinkedIn – anywhere online where digital marketing is prevalent – and see the exact same thing.
TONS OF CONTENT.
There’s tons of content – and not just from you, as a marketer.
When you’re online, you’re competing with the friends, family members, teachers, lovers, celebrities, and – oh, yeah – other marketers.
You have to compete with all of these external factors just for a second of attention from your target audience.
Think about that…
With the plethora of online platforms & marketing out there today, you’re lucky if someone who views your marketing items takes away three things from your message.
3. That’s it.
Think about it: How many Facebook posts, Facebook ads, retargeting ads, emails, texts, sponsored Tweets, billboards, fliers, direct mail pieces, radio spots, video posts, magazine ads, etc., etc., etc., do you lay eyes on every day?
Probably hundreds.
& how much information do you retain from those messages?
Less than 1% out of all of them.
& not because you’re not interested, but because they don’t merit your attention and retention.
They don’t do a good enough job in capturing your focus.
The sad truth is, you’re extremely lucky if people take away 3 things from your marketing message.
So…knowing that you can likely only fit 3 things into your prospect’s mind about your business/product/service – what 3 things would you have them take away?
…
Really, makes your prioritize & clarify your marketing message, huh?
Get clear on what you want these 3 things to be, and comment below with additional thoughts.
